About URA

Undergraduate Research Apprentice is a non-credit based campaign which aims at encouraging students to engage in different research activities either inside or outside this university. Within the department, a lot of our teaching faculties uphold different kinds of interesting and exciting research projects. All students are welcome to 'knock the door' to any of us and see whether it is possible to take part in. Your engagement certainly would provide you with experiences of research building, practical research skill, and/or knowledge in quantitative/qualitative analysis. The mode of the partnership between students and lecturers is developed based on their corresponding mutual agreement. Nature of duty, working hours, and different sorts of research activities would be varied lecturer by lecturer. Students can therefore visit different lecturers before deciding which project(s) they would like to join. Of course, you can join more than one research project with different lecturers from this university or other universities, if they do not affect your balance of life.

Award application

URA Award(s) will be issued each year to compliment the excellence of research performance of student(s) studying in this department. Any student can fill in the application form to apply ‘Undergraduate Research Apprentice Award’. Students can ask for short reference letter(s) from the investigator(s) whom they have worked with before to backup their excellence in research work. Investigators can base on the actual performance of the individual students to give their recommendation. For students who have worked with other research investigators outside this university, they are also encouraged to apply this award by submitting the same application form with the reference letters from the investigator(s) that they have worked with in other contexts.  All application forms are expected to be submitted to lylo@hksyu.edu before 30 June in each year. The collected application forms and reference letters will be discussed in the departmental research subcommittee meetings in which panel members with different research expertise will come up with a final decision about the championship. Normally, only one applicant will be chosen as an awardee in each year. The final result will be announced in early September in Moodle. If no received applications show excellence in research work or all received applications cannot satisfy the panel members, the award will be suspended in that year.

Award

Awardee will be awarded with a cash prize and a certificate issued by the Department of Counselling and Psychology. Also, the the names of the winners will be posted on this webpage.

In addition, the choices of research areas of the participating students will be processed first in the courses of PSY 371, PSY 373, PSY 401 or PSY 411.
